PCC response to Cardigan Road shooting (4 Dec 2013)

The Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire, Mark Burns-Williamson, praised the bravery of the police officers caught up in today's shooting in Leeds.

"I would like to reassure the public that these types of incidents are fortunately incredibly rare," Mr Burns-Williamson said.

"But we all must recognise the bravery demonstrated by officers and staff every single day to ensure the safety of the public. I want to pay tribute to their dedication and commitment in keeping our communities safe.

"The swift actions of officers today and information from the public meant an arrest was made quickly and I want to reassure people that there will be a visible police presence in the area to provide reassurance.

"However, my overriding thoughts and sympathies are with the seriously injured officer, her family and colleagues at this time."
