Seminar Helps People To Know The Signs (28 Nov 2013)

Do you 'Know the Signs' of Child Sexual Exploitation?

A multi-agency seminar is set to take place tomorrow morning (29/11) at the Holiday Inn at Garforth, highlighting the indicators of the crime.

Organisations involved in safeguarding young people will be attending, receiving and offering information or advice.

West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson will be speaking at the event and said:

"Tackling Child Sexual Exploitation is a key priority within my Police and Crime Plan which is why I have directed funding into organising this event.

"It offers an opportunity to share best practice and deliver a consistency in our service across the board.

"If we all have a clear understanding of how this horrendous crime manifests itself within our communities, we can work better together to combat it.

"In co-ordinating our efforts, we can continue to lead a robust multi agency approach to prevention and also enforcement."

West Yorkshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Ingrid Lee says it is vital in providing the best possible service to the public:

"As part of the West Yorkshire Police 'Know the Signs' campaign we have come together with our partners for this important event which encourages an awareness of child sexual exploitation.

"We will be sharing our experiences in policing and listening to other professionals in their field of expertise.

"This is a crime which can affect every section of our community and it is only by standing shoulder to shoulder that we can remove this from our neighbourhoods.

"I would urge everyone to visit our website www.westyorkshire.police.uk/cse and view the online videos, snap-guides and other material which can help identify this type of offence and what you can do about it."
