Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has launched the latest round of his Safer Communities Fund with £140,000 in grants available for 'not for profit' organisations.

Groups across West Yorkshire can bid for grants of up to £5,000 for projects to help keep West Yorkshire communities safe.

Successful projects need to address the outcomes and priorities in the Police and Crime Commissioner's Police and Crime Plan which include improving road safety, tackling cyber crime, anti-social behaviour and domestic abuse to name just a few.

The Safer Communities Fund is financed with money recovered from criminals by West Yorkshire Police and prosecutors under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Since the fund launched in February 2014, over £2million has been granted to over 460 projects.

Mark said: "I am very pleased to announce the latest round of my Safer Communities Fund is open for applications with £140,000 available.

"These grants can, and do, make a real difference in our communities and I would both urge projects to apply and appeal directly to our communities to spread the word so we can make sure all those that are eligible to apply know about the Fund."

"Another big thank you to the staff at West Yorkshire Police and our prosecutors for their hard work in recovering money and assets from criminals and ensuring the Safer Communities Fund can continue to support good causes."

West Yorkshire Police Chief Constable Dee Collins, said: "I know there are a great many organisations doing some excellent work for the communities of West Yorkshire and I would encourage any of those groups that feels they meet the necessary criteria to apply for a grant from the Safer Communities Fund.

"We are committed to pursuing criminals' assets, so that it can be reinvested in our communities."

The closing date for applications for the current grant round is 12pm on Friday 9 February 2018.To find out more and to apply, visit /safer-communities-fund.aspx.
