PCC statement on HMICFRS ‘Good’ rating for efficiency of West Yorkshire Police (9 Nov 2017)

West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson, said: "I am pleased to note that Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) Efficiency report has rated West Yorkshire Police (WYP) as Good in understanding demand, use of resources and future planning.

"It notes the collaboration work being undertaken with partner agencies, which includes regional collaboration and the tri-service collaboration board, which includes Police, Fire and Ambulance, to ensure we are working together collectively, in keeping with other PCCs and forces, our communities feel safe.

"I was also pleased to note the comments about the Contact Centre who work incredibly hard to ensure people can contact them in the most appropriate way possible, and the work being done by WYP to understand emerging crimes such as modern slavery and cyber-crime for example.

"Being rated Good is a real achievement as it is happening against a backdrop of increased demand, more complex crimes and ongoing challenges around funding and resources.

"Whilst we have started to increase officer numbers again through new recruitment, much more needs to be done with regards government funding and sustained resources for policing to ensure that we can continue to keep our communities safe, enabling our officers and staff to provide the best service they can for our communities."
