Statement from PCC on today's announcement on West Yorkshire Devolution.

Mark Burns-Williamson, Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire, said: “I welcome this deal struck by Labour Council Leaders that will bring more overdue resources into West Yorkshire.  A Mayor for this area will see £1.8bn  invested in our communities and oversee the opportunities for much greater partnership working, improving people’s lives and will be a similar arrangement to London and Greater Manchester.

"The governance of policing is proposed to transfer to the elected Mayor’s office in 2024. As Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), I will work to ensure a smooth transition with neighbourhood policing remaining at the heart of keeping communities safe and feeling safe.

"I will work with the elected Mayor once in post to make sure we build on the good work of the OPCC and will also work with council Leaders standing up for our communities and helping make a real difference across West Yorkshire.”
