Safer Communities Fund open for applications

I have launched the latest round of the Safer Communities Fund (SCF). Voluntary, community groups, charities and partners are now able to apply for grants of up to £5,000. The latest round has a general theme and groups are invited to apply that have projects that deliver on the priorities in the Police and Crime Plan. The closing date for applications to the fund is 12pm on Friday 6 October.

Lord Ferrers Awards - Nominate a Police Volunteer

The Lord Ferrers Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of special constables, police support volunteers and volunteer police cadets. Our police volunteers do an amazing job in helping keeping our communities feeling safe. They sacrifice time with loved ones and other commitments to find enough time to help their communities which is something we can all admire. I would urge anyone who knows a police volunteer that goes above and beyond to nominate them for an award. The deadline for nominations is Sunday 17 September.

Recruiting Youth Advisory Group Members

I am looking for motivated young people to join my Youth Advisory Group. The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) consists of members aged between 13 and 21 years old who meet throughout West Yorkshire to give their views and comments to steer decisions, policy and engagement. The recruitment drive follows the most recent meetings of the YAG where they visited departments across West Yorkshire Police including, the National Police Air Service, the Mounted Section, and even met directly with the Chief Constable, Dee Collins! Young people have a unique and valued point of view and it's really important that they are involved in decision making

Ever wondered if you've got what it takes to become a police officer? West Yorkshire Police are once again opening their latest recruitment window for aspiring police officers. From 11 September, members of the public will be able to apply to become a police officer - the latest window will be open for two weeks and closes on 23 September. Becoming a police officer is a fantastic opportunity. If you're looking for a challenge, a varied career and are passionate about making a difference in your community, I would strongly encourage you to apply.

School Cyber Crime Contest

I have launched a new cyber competition with West Yorkshire Police. It's open to West Yorkshire schools for Years 7, 8 and 9, helping to boost online safety. Teams are being invited to create an engaging resource aimed at helping people stay safe online. This could be a website, impactive leaflet, phone app, or even a rap or spoken message. Schools have to confirm they are taking part by Friday October 6th with entries submitted by Monday, December 17th. Teams can win a top trophy and certificates as well as an exclusive tour of West Yorkshire Police's specialist operations site at Carr Gate, Wakefield.
