Who we are

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is a registered data controller under the Data Protection Act. The Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 identifies the legal duties of the Police and Crime Commissioner and you can see a copy of this here.

What we do

We process personal information as a police and crime commissioner's office to improve accountability within West Yorkshire Police and ensure that West Yorkshire Police is combating issues important to our local community; managing our staff, maintaining our accounts and records, promoting our services and activities, carrying out research, and we use CCTV systems for crime prevention.

What personal information we collect

We may process personal information in relation to:

  • Lifestyle and social circumstances
  • Visual images, personal appearance and behaviour

We also process sensitive personal information which includes:

  • Offences and alleged offences
  • Disciplinary and misconduct allegations
  • Criminal proceedings, outcomes and sentences
  • Racial and ethnic origin
  • Religious or similar beliefs
  • Trade Union membership
  • Physical or mental health and condition
  • Information about victims of crime

We gather personal information from publicly available sources, from contact with the individual themselves and personal information may be shared with us by West Yorkshire Police and other police forces, by other Police and Crime Commissioners, by local authorities and by other partners such as the NHS, third sector organisations, community groups and Government departments.

Transfers to other countries

It may sometimes be necessary to transfer personal information overseas. When this is needed information is only shared within the European Economic Area (EEA). Any transfers made will be in full compliance with all aspects of the Data Protection Act.

Your rights

You have the right to be told what information is held about you and to be given a copy of that information. This is the right to make a subject access request.

If we need your consent to process your information you have the right to withdraw that consent.

You also have the right to have information rectified and in certain circumstances you have the right to object to processing and to have data erased.
